Working With Deana (Monday 3rd June)

Deanne from our first work shop showed us different ways we can connect with our client group and feeling comfortable with each other. we used these techniques in today's workshop (A GAMES WORKSHOP!!!)

1st thing 1st 

Get into a circle but in Height order 

Don't hold hands
- She explained that its always good to stand in a circle as everyone is able to see each other and the group doesn't become segregated.
- Sometimes it may be difficult to get everyone into a Circle instantly so i suggested that we should hold hands then joined at the sides. to make a really quick circle Deanna recommended we didn't do this, especially with the age of the group we will be working with.


GETTING TO KNOW THERE NAMES

-Name game with action
First letter of name, three guess of what he looks like or one each.
You can't react
Problems is that is segregates the group Brit Students side Turnaround people the other
They could get offended by stereotypical names I.E (Vicky Pollard)


My idea was to do an alphabet name game where you have to get in chronological order from A-Z

This is were everyone has to stand in order of there names by the alphabet. They have to do this is silence so this gives everyone the opportunity to really interact with people in a less vocal way. I thought this idea was very good because we all had to work together in silence to get in right


-How to deal with confrontational situations.
-Have time outs
-The golden rule


The space game
Everyone is united
It makes people spatially aware and working as a team. 

You have to lie on the floor and take up as much space as possible...... I thought this game wasn't very fun and no winner or points could of been collected because you never gonna feel up a whole room with 13 people you need about 300.


Deana told us that when coming up with a story these are key openers we can use to help.

In today's workshop we started out with an introduction to what the challenges we were going top be facing and how we deal with certain situations. We had the Care worked of The Turnaround Centre come in to briefly talk to us  about The Turnaround Centre and what involves.

Having this talk prepared me for what i thought would be a daunting task but an enjoyable experience. they explained to us the people who we are working with have agreed that they want to do the workshop with us and they have a passion for the arts. After having this discussion the Care Workers left and we got straight into our Workshop with a lady called Deana. 

Deana takes Spoken Word workshops to help us develop in teaching others and well as learning people skills. we learnt and made up ourselves a couple of games which involves learning each other's names. The ideas ranged from  trying to guess the person name through knowing their first letter to having everyone line up in name chronological order in silence. We found these games were successful however with having 26 people participate in the game it would take an awful long amount of time.

During our workshop i learnt that when doing certain workshops yourself of activities you need to engage your audience and let them enjoy what they are doing. I learnt that there should be no discrimination and that all the people involved in the workshops we do are all equal.

This is a game we played called "Planets" which involved following a body part of someone else then everyone joins together to create a Galaxy of planets.
